Welcome to the Avon Fire / Rescue Explorer Website
The Avon Fire Rescue Explorer post was first chartered in the early 1980's. Since that time, we have become one of the premier posts in the Crossroads of America Council.
The Avon Fire Explorers are part of Learning for Life's career education program for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) or 15 through 20 years old.
Exploring's purpose is to provide experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Explorers are ready to investigate the meaning of interdependence in their personal relationships and communities. Exploring gives young people an opportunity to see if a particular career interest is right for them, before they invest a lot of time and effort only to find out they do not like it.
Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Local community organizations initiate an Explorer post by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop.
Explorer posts can specialize in a variety of career skills. Exploring programs are based on five areas of emphasis: career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education, and leadership experience.
The Avon Fire / Rescue Explorer post is Sponsored by the Washington Township Avon Fire Department, which is located in Avon, Indiana. Avon, Indiana is located just to the west of Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Avon Fire Explorers learn and train in all aspects of firefighting and emergency medical care. Explorers are taught from the firefighter I & II level and the EMT-B curriculum. Along with the technical training, the Avon Explorers are very active in our community. We regularly participate in the department’s safety trailer events, community events, community service projects as well as our councils events.
Our post meets every Monday night for our regularly scheduled training, and many times on the weekends to prepare for competitions or to accomplish training that requires more time.
Our post membership is open to all young men and women who meet the age requirements and are willing to make a commitment to being a member of our post. If you are not sure if you want to be in the fire service or emergency medical service, you can come out and give it a try.
If you are interested, contact us and we will give you a call or email and let you know where our next training will be. If you are viewing this site from outside the Indianapolis area and are interested in finding a post near you, contact Learning for Life and they can direct you to the nearest Exploring post or use our "Post Locator Map" function on this site to see if we have a post listed that is near to you. Please note that not all posts are listed. We are constantly updating this.
